Fanfarlo

Originally started by Swedish musician, Simon Balthazar and Giles D Davis in 2006, Fanfarlo is a London-based indie pop group that can be described in a word, interesting. Their style, sound, videos, and look have a very interesting, stylish, and edgy feel. They combine indie, folk, and post-punk sounds using their vast instrumental skills. Among the instruments used in the group are the trumpet, violin, mandolin, musical saw, and clarinet. Fanfarlo got their name from the Charles Baudelaire novella, La Fanfarlo, and consists of Amos Memon (vocals, drums, percussion), Cathy Lucas (violin, keys, mandolin, glockenspiel, vocals, musical saw), Justin Finch (bass, vocals), Leon Beckenham (trumpet, keyboards, glockenspiel, melodica, vocals), and Simon Balthazar (vocals, guitar, keyboards, mandolin, saxophone, clarinet). Quite a combination of instruments, eh? Seeing Fanfarlo perform their catchy songs will definitely be a sight if they've brought all their instruments along! They will be performing at Coachella 2012 on Sunday, April 15th and 22nd!

Feist

Not to be confused with the small hunting dog, almost 36-year old Leslie Feist is a Canadian singer-songwriter with a voice from the music gods. Her musical talents range from vocals, writing, guitar, banjo, piano, and drums, and she also performs with indie rock group Broken Social Science. At Coachella she will be performing for us as her wonderful solo-self, Feist. Her indie pop, folk, baroque pop sound is just beautiful and will have you swaying side to side feeling full of soul, passion, and amazement. When Feist sings it literally makes me shut my eyes and get that "awwww yeahhhh" look on my face as I rock back and forth, and I doubt that it won't do the same for you. Her music makes you feel calm and like you're living in the clouds, and I cannot wait till she makes us float on thin air at Coachella, where she will be playing on Saturday, April 14th and 21st.

The Head And The Heart

Hailing from Seattle, Washington, this indie folk-pop group consists of Josiah Johnson (vocals, guitar, percussion), Jonathan Russell (vocals, guitar, percussion), Charity Rose Thielen (violin, vocals), Chris Zasche (bass), Kenny Hensley (piano), and Tyler Williams (drums). Now, back in August when I slapped a "The Head and the Heart" bumper sticker on my lap-top, I had no idea who they were, or if they were even a band. I just knew that I really liked the words. But I am now incredibly happy to be representing them everywhere I go! Formed in 2009 and picked up by Sub Pop Records in 2010, The Head and the Heart creates beautiful harmonies and magical melodies. Their music is absolutely perfect for a play day in the sun, or a rainy day where all you wanna do is stay in bed and snuggle. The Head and the Heart have certainly proven that they possess the gift of music, and I'm very excited to check them out at the festival! They will be playing at Coachella on Saturday, April 14th and 21st, so get ready to be wooed!

St. Vincent

St. Vincent- "Marrow"

While her birth certificate says Annie Erin Clark, her fans know her as St. Vincent. She's an American singer-songwriter who was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, but grew up in Dallas, Texas, and whose musical talent goes far beyond her vocal skills. She learned to play the guitar at the age of 12, and picked up the bass and keyboards as well. Prior to embarking on a solo career, she was part of The Polyphonic Spree and Sufjan Stevens', and since forming her own band has collaborated with the likes of Kid Cudi and Cage, as well as with Bon Iver on "Roslyn" (which was featured in The Twilight Saga: New Moon). Maybe if we're lucky they will join forces again right before our eyes at the festival!

This indie/baroque pop-art/math rock gal will bring your musically inclined senses to a happy halt with her edgy jams. Her music has a fun, funky, and interesting sound to please any level of listening you might desire, and her lovely face is perfect for producing such a lovely voice. To watch her perform her music makes you fall in love with her and drift away to a nostalgic place. She'll be playing on Saturday, April 14th and 20th, so put her on your "To See List," and get ready to be taken to your happy place!
